Victim-Offender Mediation Training

We provide training for victim-offender mediation and reconciliation programs, and for juvenile justice programs, dispute resolution centers and other organizations and government agencies wishing to start such a program. Trainings are custom-tailored to the needs of the organization and include a 400 page training manual that will be a valuable resource for the program and its mediators.
We have provided training and technical consulting throughout the United States and abroad. We can work with you, wherever you are located.

Three levels of training are offered:

Basic Victim-Offender Mediation Skills (about 40 hours) for individuals who have had no previous mediation training

Intermediate Victim-Offender Mediation-Specific Skills (about 20 hours) for individuals who have had general mediation training

Advanced Victim-Offender Mediation Skills for Crimes of Severe Violence (about 20 hours) for individuals who have had training and experience in the mediation of non-violent crimes and offenses
The training techniques are highly experiential:

Reading material will be provided prior to training, to reduce the need for didactic presentations of information

Self-reflective written and oral exercises, followed by sharing in dyads

Small group processing of issues and reporting back to the large group

Case studies

Video presentations

Modeling of skills

Mediation roleplays/practice of case development and mediation skills in dyads, triads and small groups

Marty Price, J.D., an attorney and social worker turned to mediator, is the founder and director of the Victim-Offender Reconciliation Program (VORP) Information and Resource Center, in Camas, Washington. He is the founder and former director of the VORP of Clackamas County (Oregon.) He is a current Board Member and former Co-Chair of the Victim-Offender Mediation Association (VOMA), a non-profit, international, educational and advocacy organization that promotes restorative justice and supports victim-offender mediation and reconciliation programs.

The Center provides information, training, public education, technical assistance, consulting and victim-offender mediation and reconciliation services. We serve non-profit organizations, governmental agencies and individuals. The Center specializes in juvenile justice and the mediation of drunk driving fatality cases and other crimes of severe violence.

Our mission is to bring restorative justice reform to our criminal justice system, to empower victims, offenders and communities to heal the effects of crime, to curb recidivism, and to offer our society a more effective and humanistic alternative to the growing outcry for more prisons and more punishment.
